June 2006 St. Therese of Carmel Music Show

Welcome to the June edition of the St. Therese of Carmel Music Show, from St. Therese of Carmel Catholic Church in San Diego, California.

Our first song is The Unaccepted Gift by Gary Sundblad. This song is, yes, very sentimental. It's one I planned on saving for Christmas, but I'd like to play it now for two reasons. First, Christmas songs that truly address the message of Christmas are sometimes best appreciated apart from the secular season of gift-buying and giving. June is about as far removed from the Christmas season as you can get. Second, our choir will have plenty to present for Christmas, and I plan on featuring the best we can do as a choir for our winter shows.

The Unaccepted Gift opens with and effortlessly incorporates the soft and harmonious strains of the very familiar song Joy to the World, yet exposes, through the juxtaposition of the verses, what is so often the true heart of joy, which is very often offered to those who would not or do not accept it. I don't think I'll listen to Joy to the World the same way ever again.

Our second song is a guitar and vocal arrangement by Axiom to Zeal called Ally. It's an uplifting love song about what could be interpreted as the touch of a loving god in everyday life.

Thank you for listening to the St. Therese of Carmel Music Show for June 2006. If you have a musical request or comment on the show, please email me at w5nyv at yahoo dot com.
